Bethpage State Park Hosts McLaughlin Golf Tournament

Eighteen Ivy and non-Ivy teams competed on the par-70 Red Course.

The McLaughlin golf tournament, hosted by St. John’s this past weekend, featured a mix of 18 Ivy and non-Ivy teams, competing on the par-70 Red Course of

West Florida won the tournament at 828 and TCU was one shot back at 829.

“Our performance wasn’t bad, but unfortunately, we didn’t play well enough, we all kind of played about 75 percent, which is not good enough to win,” said Harvard team captain Tony Grillo, whose two-day performance placed him in a tie for 26th. “We were hoping to do better, but it’s not a terrible start to the season—it’s a consistent start.”

The Loyola Greyhounds finished in 13th place, while the IUPUI  Jaguars men's golf team fired a school record 843 and placed third, solidified by a final round 281 on Saturday.

“To be honest, the course was probably the easiest we play all year, in terms of set-up and the conditions. That’s why we’re disappointed we didn’t take it lower,” Harvard captain Grillo said.

The tournament began on Friday under fairly moderate weather, with only a little wind and clear skies, players reported.
