Breaking: Barricaded Man Shuts Down Prospect Street

Several police units responded to a call from an emotionally disturbed man Wednesday night.

An emotionally-disturbed man at a Prospect Street residence caused police to barricade the block for several hours Wednesday night, authorities said.

According to Nassau County Lt. Kevin Smith, police received a call from a man threatening suicide with a firearm at around 5 p.m. The Emergency Services and Bureau of Special Investigations units responded to the scene. Hostage negotiators also came in case there were others with him at the Farmingdale residence.

Neighbors watched as police evacuated the surrounding homes and shut down the block to traffic.

Within one hour the man came out of the home on his own and was brought to the hospital, Lt. Smith said.

At this time it is unclear if the man lived in the home or was just visiting. Police searched the home for firearms and determined he was alone during the incident.
