Business Notebook: Talon Air Installs New System, Adds to Fleet

, a private jet charter and aircraft management company based at , has installed a unique perimeter-warning system in two of its hangars that uses the Redscan laser-scan detectors to warn pilots and hangar operators when a plane comes within eight feet of the hangar walls.

"Talon Air puts a premium on maintaining clean, safe, and state-of-the-art facilities," said Adam Katz, founder, president and CEO of Talon Air. "The Optex Redscan laser-scan system is a cost-effective and powerful way to reduce the likelihood of damage to aircraft or facilities while allowing personnel to move freely throughout the hangar."

The goal was to eliminate any risk of damage to aircraft during exit or entry and to reduce insurance premiums.The scanning system uses four Redscan RLS-3060 laser scanners, which detect a moving object's size, speed, and distance from the detector. Grid Squared Systems, an Optex Redscan Certified System Integrator, was selected by Talon to propose a system solution that would fit their unique safety requirements.

Talon Air Expands Fleet

Talon Air also recently announced that it has added a Gulfstream V to its nationwide fleet of modern business jets. As part of the company's ongoing expansion, this ultra-long range aircraft allows Talon Air to better service international destinations and offer more nonstop long-range destinations.

The aircraft will be based at Republic Airport  during the summer months and Palm Beach International Airport during the winter season.

Nutricap Labs Wins Award

Jason Provenzano, president and founder of earned a Stevie Award for Executive of the Year–Health Products and Services–Up to 100 Employees in The 2011 American Business Awards. The Stevie Awards honor companies and the people behind them for outstanding performances in the workplace worldwide.

Farmingdale Company Chosen by Mitsubishi

The Mitsubishi heavy industries division has chosen a Farmingdale company, Tri-Lift Inc., as its authorized forklift distributor for most of New York City and for Long Island.

Tri-Lift is located on Conklin Street in Farmingdale. The company will be responsible for authorized sales and service of Mitsubishi forklifts for Suffolk, Nassau, Queens, Kings, Bronx and New York counties..

“With their vast knowledge of the material handling industry, their dedicated team of professionals has the expertise and know-how to provide the best forklift truck solutions, customer service and support,” Kent Eudy, vice president of dealer sales for Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks, said in a release.

Mitsubishi said Tri-Lift provides a wide range of material handling equipment "from internal combustion cushion tire and pneumatic tire forklifts to electric counterbalanced and narrow aisle forklifts and walkies" and it has  "a comprehensive inventory of parts and a team of skilled technicians."

Outline Names Senior Vice President

Outline, a manufacturer of speaker systems for touring, installation and studio applications, has named Tom Bensen as senior vice president and managing director for its U.S. subsidiary, Outline North America, LLC. Bensen will be based in Outline’s offices in Farmingdale, NY.

Tom Bensen has worked in the pro audio industry for the past 35 years. In addition to his role with Outline, Tom is president of RF Pro, a company that provides management/consulting services, support, market access and representation for pro audio manufacturers.
