Cops Seek Leads on Purse Thief

Detectives release video surveillance photo of suspect in East Farmingdale incident.

Suffolk County Police are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the person who stole a woman’s purse from her car while it was parked in a residential area in East Farmingdale.

The incident dates to Wednesday, Dec. 19, when the woman parked her 2011 GMC Acadia in the driveway of a home on Birch Avenue in East Farmingdale about 6 p.m. The women left her pocketbook on the front passenger seat while she went inside her friend’s house for a brief visit.

At about 6:30 p.m., surveillance video cameras captured an unknown male subject as he opened the unlocked driver’s side door of the woman’s vehicle and stole her pocketbook. The suspect then fled on foot north on Birch Avenue, police said.

The subject is described as a light-skinned male wearing jeans and a dark jacket with a light colored hooded sweatshirt underneath.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-220-TIPS.  All calls will be kept confidential. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
