Did Tuition Increases at La Salle Lead to Closure?

The school will close at the end of 2011-2012, the Diocese announced last week.

Drops in enrollment and several other factors Farmingdale's and five other Catholic elementary schools on Long Island at the end of this year.

According to the Diocese, La Salle's enrollment has declined from 311 students in 2000-2001 to 184 students for 2011-2012, a 41 percent drop over the decade. Tuition this year was $4,366, a $682 increase from five years ago.

said Msgr. Flynn, the pastor of parish, which oversees the regional school. "People just can't afford the school and property taxes in Farmingdale."

La Salle was this past March. Representatives from will be coming in to La Salle over the coming months to help parents plan where they will send their children next year.
