Farmingdale Biz Q & A: Island Tech Consulting

The business is run by two young Farmingdale natives.

Christopher Patterson and Michael Landi are born and raised Dalers who, after working in the technology field, decided to form their own company right here in Farmingdale.

Island Tech Consulting started last year and the pair is looking forward to a bright future in the area.

When was Island Tech Consulting founded and what services does it provide?
Patterson: Island Tech Consulting was founded in 2011 and provides information technology related services to businesses in the metro New York area.  Our services include infrastructure development, as well as review, software development, website development and hosting and much more.  We have your business covered from the emails you send out to the application you are using to analyze your business patterns.

What do you do specifically at the company?
Patterson: I am a managing director along with my partner, Michael Landi. We are both technical people, sharing different specialized skillsets.  Our backgrounds and dealings with start-ups to enterprise level corporations has allowed us to understand the needs of every type of business.  Businesses have come to us for something as simple as a website, and other businesses have come to us to do a review of their technology infrastructure.  Every business has its own technological needs, and they each will always have ways they can improve their business process.

Why did you choose this field/having your own business?
Patterson: I have always been passionate about technology.  When I was working with larger companies, I would have conversations with friends who were involved with smaller businesses and they always mentioned how they wish that the companies they worked for could afford to do a lot of things the bigger companies are.  I wanted to bring cost effective, custom-tailored solutions to today's businesses to show them they don't need to be a Fortune 500 company to have their technology infrastructure operate as if they were.  Many other tech consulting firms overprice themselves, leaving small business owners afraid to pursue tech growth necessary to compete in today's market. We don't do that, we welcome and embrace every project.

What did you/your partner do previously?
Patterson: I have previously served as the Manager of Information Technology for Management Health Solutions, Inc. and most recently the Chief Information Officer at the Airport Medical Offices.  Michael has served as a Senior Software Architect at Clear-Cut Computing and most recently at Light Speed Solutions.

Why did you choose Farmingdale?
Patterson: Both Michael and I are born and raised Dalers, and couldn't picture wanting to start a business elsewhere. Spencer Denauski, who is part of our Design team, also is a born and raised Daler. We grew up walking up and down Main Street, eating bagels and pizza and shopping, and now enjoying the nightlife in the Village.  We want to see this area grow and we hope we can encourage other young professionals to do the same. There is still so much potential for this area on Long Island, we just need to embrace it.

What is your business plan over the next few years?
Patterson: As the world of technology quickly evolves so will our service offering and business model.  We are constantly embracing new technolgy which allows our current and future clients to improve their day-to-day functions as well as create a more efficient and cost-effective workplace.  A famous quote from the movie Wall Street is "The most valuable commodity I know of is information," and that holds very true in today's world.  Many businesses don't realize how much business intelligence can be gathered and analyzed that they are missing out on from something as simple as their daily sales calls.  We strive to help businesses better themselves utilizing our custom-tailored solutions for their business.  We live in an extemely digital world, which cements our place in the foundation of every business utilizing our services.

How are you doing in this challenging economy?
Patterson: Business has been growing as more businesses are outsourcing their IT needs to us, rather than bringing on someone full-time to handle their technology needs.  As many businesses are reviewing their current infrastructure and looking for ways to better collect, store and analyze their data, they are seeking help from experienced IT consultants to help them get to where they want to be.
