Farmingdale High School Art Showcased

Two Farmingdale High School art students recently had their work displayed at a special exhibit titled “Advanced Visions VIII: High School Artists of Excellence in Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn and Queens Counties.” 

Daniella Magnani and Emily Glascott had their work showcased at the exhibit at Long Island University’s C.W. Post campus, which ran from Dec. 20, 2011 through Jan. 25, 2012 in the Campus Art Students League Gallery.

"Daniella and Emily are talented and versatile artists," said their Farmingdale High School art teacher Regina Nicholas. "Daniella's work was chosen for its original and creative approach to ordinary objects while Emily's portraits capture the spirit of the person and offer the viewer a glimpse into their lives."

Both students are studying the traditional fine arts of drawing and painting and the digital arts. Magnani's work was a series of macro photographs feature a pairing or diptych of two intense close-ups of simple objects. The two images, one living and one non-living object, force a comparison and metaphor between both their aesthetics and their function in the real world, Nicholas said.

Glascott's photographs are figurative and feature people young and old. Her portraits offer the viewer a glimpse into their lives, one with a young girl covered in paint with an expression of joy and spontaneity. She has a "special gift of creating engaging compositions and in capturing emotion in her subjects," Nicholas said.

The Farmingdale School District art department participates in many art competitions and hosts a district-wide exhibit each year.
