A kick-off fundraiser is planned for Jan. 29 from 2 to 5 p.m. at . At the kick-off teams can register for the June event and for $20 participants will get unlimited bowling, pizza and soda in addition to raffles and a bake sale.

Rain moved  from outside into Roosevelt Hall, but it didn't dampen the spirit of 360 participants on 39 teams. The night included performances, special laps, bake sales, contests and other activities and the Farmingdale group raised $70,512 for the American Cancer Society.

"The Relay For Life of Farmingdale 2011 was a success. Though we may have had fewer registered participants, the people who were there came out in full force to take a stand against cancer," said Pamela Parker, director of Special Events for the American Cancer Society.

A major change last year was that high school and youth participants were required to each raise $100 to be allowed to stay over during the all-night event. As in past years, Farmingdale State College is donating the venue for 2012 by waiving the rental fee.
