Farmingdale Resident Plays Santa

Thomas Gubitosi donates $20,000 Walmart shopping spree.

A Farmingdale resident was Santa for more than 200 kids this season. 

Thomas Gubitosi, an Education & Assistance Corporation board member, funded a shopping spree at the East Meadow Walmart for children in need.

The childreen who participated were either in the foster care system, have a parent who is battling substance abuse or part of a family struggling due to the declining economy, EAC said.

Each child was accompanied by a volunteer and received $100 to spend on their choice of toys, clothes, and/or electronics. The total donated by Gubitosi was $20,000.

This is the 12th year Gubitosi funded the spree through the Marie Gubitosi Foundation, a nonprofit established in honor of his late mother with the goal of helping needy children.
