Farmingdale SBDC Honors Merrick Business

Moolala, a local yogurt shop, received the center's Phoenix award.

The Small Business Development Center at recently presented the Merrick-based business Moolala with the Phoenix Award.

The SBDC Phoenix award is given to individuals who "represent the entrepreneurial spirit of creating opportunities during difficult times."

Moolala owners Robert and Danielle Rosenberg opened Long Island's first self-serve yogurt cafe in 2010, with the help of the Small Business Development Center.

"We'll do whatever we can to help people in Nassau and Suffolk in having the business they dream of," said SBDC Director Lucille Wesnofske, who has more than 20 years of experience in small business consulting and has been the director of the Farmingdale SBDC since 2001.

At National Small Business Week in May, the center was voted best in Region II of the federal Small Business Administration, which includes New York State, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Since opening, the SBDC has helped 24,605 businesses, has invested $282 million in the local economy and has saved almost 12,000 jobs, according to the center's records. With the recent news of a , the center has plans to do even more for the local economy.

Moolala celebrated its one-year anniversary this June.
