Farmingdale State Hires Res Life Director

Angela Jasur has been appointed to the position.

enters its centennial anniversary this school year and has hired a new director of Residential Life to help usher in the college's new era.

Angela Jasur, a Wheatley Heights resident and native Longer Islander, will manage the students living on campus.

“Living on campus was one of the most transformative experiences of my life, so I encourage all students to be part of the residential community,” she said. “Lifelong friendships are made and important learning takes place outside of the classroom.”

Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Tom Corti said she will bring energy and creativity to Farmingdale.

“Having worked at a Long Island college, Angela brings her understanding of the particular challenges faced by Long Island students," he said.

Jasur plans to help give the students "a home away from home," while providing the support services needed for academic success.

“I plan to have an open door," she said. "The first semester at college is a critical one and it’s so important that students learn how to handle the demands of college life and different academic expectations.”

Jasur most recently worked as associate dean of students at Dowling College, where she served as a member of the Campus Safety Committee and conducted in-service training. She has tutored and taught first-year college students in academic and social skills areas. 

An active member of ACUHO-I (Association of College and University Officers – International), NEACUHO (Northeast Association of college and University Housing Officers) and NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) and served as an officer in 2004-06 with LICSPA (Long Island Council of Student Personnel Administrators).

Jasur has an M.S. degree in clinical counseling from the New York Institute of Technology and a B.S. degree in biological sciences from SUNY College at Old Westbury. As a student, Jasur was active in student government and activities.

One of Jasur’s first initiatives will be to transform move-in day into an unforgettable experience. The theme is “Let’s Rock the Boat” and students will disembark their cruise ships into exotic ports of call on each residential hall floor.
