Farmingdale State Hosts Centennial Lecture

The first lecture in Farmingdale State College's Centennial Celebration Lecture Series is tonight.

The talk will be given by Rhoda Miller, EdD, and is titled “A Triumph of Scholarships: The Collaboration between the Baron de Hirsch Society and the State Institute of Applied Agriculture at Farmingdale.” It will begin at 7 p.m. in the lobby of Nathan Hall Hall.

The lecture series celebrates the 100th anniversary of Farmingdale State College and kicks off with this lecture covering the collaboration in the early part of the 20th century (1919-1933) between Baron de Hirsch and the State Institute of Applied Agriculture at Farmingdale (SIAA) to provide scholarships to young men with a desire to receive financial assistance in developing a career in farming.

Rhoda Miller, EdD, is Director of Student Support Services at Dowling College. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Educational Technology at Dowling College, where she teaches a credit-bearing genealogy course as well as a Holocaust course.  

Dr. Miller has been a Certified Genealogist since 1998. She is the immediate Past President of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island. She lectures widely at libraries, community groups, and genealogy societies as well as regularly at conferences of the International Association of Jewish Genealogy Societies.

This presentation is blends her professional interests in both education and genealogy. This event is free and open to the public.
