Farmingdale State Hosts Fall Garden Celebration

Sunday will include tours, plant sales, advice and lectures on horticulture.

is hosting a fall garden celebration on Sunday.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., all are invited to the to learn, enjoy the beauty of the fall and support the maintenance of Farmingdale’s gardens with your purchases. Admission, tours, advice, and workshops are all free.

The day will include tours of Farmingdale State’s teaching gardens by horticulture professors, sales with fall plants and flowers, an expert panel available to answer your garden and design questions and soil sample pH analysis and plants for diagnosis offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension and several free horticultural lectures.

The lecture series will take place in the greenhouse:

  • 10 a.m.: Trees - Best Trees for Suburban Sites by Julie Seghrouchni, Cornell Cooperative Extension Nassau
  • 11 a.m.: Flowering Bulbs - Bringing Back Bulbs in the Landscape by Peter Zangel, Bissett Nursery
  • 12 p.m.: Good Bugs, Bad Bugs - Beneficial Insects vs. Pests by Dr. Gary Brown, Farmingdale State College
  • 1 p.m.: Fall Lawn Care - The Best Time to Renovate by Cornell Cooperative Extension Nassau & Farmingdale State College
