Farmingdale State Hosts Healthy Heart Day

The day includes CPR training, lectures and other information.

Farmingdale State College is hosting Healthy Heart Day Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Great lawn outside of Roosevelt Hall.

October is National Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month and October 5, 2011 marks the second anniversary of the death of Dominic A. Murray,

To honor Dom’s memory and to raise awareness of SCA, Farmingdale State College and the Dominic A. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation will offer a day of potentially lifesaving information. The event is free and the community is encouraged to attend.

The St. Francis Hospital Cardiovascular Screening Mobile Unit will offer free cardiovascular screenings.  Information tables from the campus and from organizations such as the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association LI Miracles Chapter will educate participants.

Friends and family (hands only) CPR training will be taught from noon to 2 p.m. At 1 p.m., Dr. Erik Altman, an electrophysiologist at North Shore University Hospital, will speak about SCA. A member of the Department of Cardiovascular Services at North Shore University Hospital since 2007, Dr. Altman has contributed to several publications on topics including cardiovascular imaging and technology, heart arrhythmias and hypertension.

Dominic’s mother, Melinda Murray created the Dominic A. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation to honor her son’s memory and to raise awareness of SCA.
