Farmingdale Student Wins at Science Olympiad

Paul Porter won four out of five medals for Holy Trinity.

Farmingdale resident Paul Porter helped Holy Trinity win big at the annual Western Long Island Regional Science Olympiad on Feb. 4.

Out of the school's five medals won, Porter earned four of them at the annual competition held at Kellenberg High School. There were 72 total teams and the top six teams in each subject received medals.

Senior Porter won first place in the Sounds of Music category with junior Daniel Hutchison, second place in the Gravity Vehicle category with senior Michael Brancazio, third place in the Thermodynamics category with senior Jaffer Shah and fifth place in the Magnetic Levitation category with senior Kristina Karouzaki.

Junior Samantha Hoher and sophomore Daniel Sarnelli teamed up for Holy Trinity's fifth medal, first place in the Anatomy and Physiology category.

The top eight teams in each category go to the state competition in March.
