Holiday Guide 2011: Where to Donate and Volunteer in Farmingdale

A guide to giving back this holiday season.

It's December, and that means the holidays are upon us.

Places to Give Back

Volunteer: The Long Island Volunteer Center has a database of many volunteer opportunities. To see a list of those opportunities closest to Farmingdale, click here.

Donate Food: operates a food pantry that several area churches support. The food pantry is accepting donations of nonperishable food items, personal healthcare items, infant formula and diapers. The office is located in the basement of the rectory (door is on the right) and donations can be dropped off Monday-Friday 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. and are also collecting for Island Harvest and have placed bins for canned goods in the lobby of and the eatery.

Donate Toys: is collecting new, unused toys to donate to Toys for Tots. and donors receive $2 off any open bounce session with your donation. is also collecting Toys for Tots in the month of December. 

Donate Books: Farmingdale eighth grader Katherine Pich by collecting new books for sick children at Cohen Children's Medical Center. Residents can donate the books for ages infant to preteen, both in English and Spanish, in green drop boxes located in both cafeterias at , the lobby at and the main office at The books must be new since they will be given to children with compromised immune systems.

Donate Clothes: is collecting coats and thrift shops on Main Street, like , and , accept clothing donations year round.
