Loud Jets Arriving at Republic Airport

Local residents are advised to be prepared for noise this week.

Residents should prepare for a loud few days as hosts two F-18 jets on Wednesday and Thursday.

The jets belong to the the United States Navy’s precision demonstration team, the Blue Angels, and are part of an upcoming national bicentennial observance of the War of 1812.

The aircraft will touch down at Republic Airport on the morning of Nov. 16, take off for a familiarization flight over New York Harbor in the afternoon and then depart the region on Nov. 17.

Their activities are expected to produce the type of noise expected from military aircraft applying full power for takeoff. Airport officials say children should be informed of the aircraft’s arrival and purpose so that they are not startled by their flight into the region, the jet noise they produce or their anticipated flights to and from New York City.

“As always, we welcome these aircraft and what they represent, offering a powerful tribute to the men and women who continue to defend our freedoms,” said Airport Director Michael Geiger.

During their stay, the Blue Angel F-18’s will be based at , located along New Highway on the east side of the airport.
