More than 300 Registered at Farmingdale State Shelter

More cots have been set up for evacuees since this morning.

More than 300 people have registered at the at Farmingdale State College as of 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

Food and water remain stocked at the shelter and more shipments will arrive as needed, said shelter manager Kelly Pontrello.

The gym with cots has been partitioned into sections for families, single men and single women. The families section is the largest.

The gym lights are being used sparingly to keep the temperature down. Fans are cooling the gym.

Buses have been arriving with residents throughout the afternoon. Once registered, evacuees have to sign out to leave. They also must claim cots when they arrive.

Jean Jannetti, the nurse on duty, said she has not had to treat any patients yet.
