National Night Out Schedule Set

The night is meant to promote crime and drug prevention.

The 28th Annual National Night Out, a yearly crime and drug prevention event, is scheduled for Tuesday night on Long Island.

Last year, 15,000 communities and 37 million people nationwide participated in National Night Out, an event designed to "heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back," according to nationalnightout.org

Officers from Farmingale's 7th and 8th precincts will be participating in the following events tonight:

  • 7th Precinct: The precinct will be at the Town of Oyster Bay Summer Concert at John J. Burns Park., Merrick Rd. Massapequa. This year’s focus will be on the illegal use of prescription drugs. In addition to providing written materials and speaking to concert goers, there will be a Drug Drop-Off at the location. Officers and Explorers will be on hand along with two Detectives from Narcotics. Two community-based organizations, Drug Free Massapequa and YES Community Counseling, will also be present.
  • 8th Precinct: The precinct will be at Target at 3850 Hempstead Turnpike, Levittown beginning at 5:30 p.m. Participants include Levittown Fire Deptartment, Nassau County Sheriff’s Dept, Wantagh Levittown Ambulance Corp, and the Town of Hempstead Clerk.
