More than 180 senior citizens went back to Farmingdale High School.

More than 180 seniors danced, ate and laughed the night away at Saturday's senior prom at

"There was a conflict between the high school students and the seniors here back then and we came up with this way to bring them together," said Assistant Superintendent Ellen Krammer on the event's origins 17 years ago.

The event is staffed each year by high school and middle school students from the district. This year, the high school students served the food on the buffet line and the middle school Home and Careers students were the drink servers.

88-year-old Italia Pirro has been attending the event for the past 10 years.

"The children and volunteers are wonderful and I love dancing with them," she said."I am not afraid to try any of the dances. It keeps me young."
