Dalers Place in Business Competition

Farmingdale High School students participated in a business competition on Nov. 30.

Five students placed last week in the Ninth Annual Business Leadership Competition held at

The event featured more than 300 students from 14 high schools and was sponsored by the Young Professionals Chamber of Commerce, a program of the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce.

The competition consists of students presenting to a panel of judges in the categories of Fashion Marketing, Hospitality Services, Advertising, Graphic Design, Travel and Tourism, Sales Demonstration, Sports Management, Sports Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Job Interview Skills. Students received the project topics last month, according to YPCC director Linda Mitchell.

First place in the Entrepreneurship category went to Farmingdale High School students Sal Sherman and Alexis Napoli. Second place in Fashion Marketing went to Julia Callan and Alicia Baccarella. Dustin Feynman received honorable mention in Sports Management.

The Farmingdale students who participated in the competition were Julia Callan, Alicia Baccarella, Samantha Coffin, Jessica Hunt, Katie Sutherland, Rachel Fishman, Mackenzie Ferrara, Jessica Napoli, Nick DiTaranto, Samantha Marsilla, Sal Sherman, Alexis Napoli, Andie Floresta, Michelle Fredericks, Kevin Powell, Aaron Vasques, Dustin Feynman, Jessica Locavare, Alexandra Jannello, Rachel Tropiano and Harrison Graf. It was the first year Farmingdale participated.

Mitchell said the event is highly regarded by college admissions counselors and is a good opportunity, especially for students who can't take part in year-long business programs like

"I’ve heard from the districts who participate that it is a very worthwhile experience and a great day for students," she said.

Mitchell said that the YPCC is looking forward to next year's tenth anniversary of the competition, tentatively scheduled for the Wednesday after Thanksgiving.
