VIDEO: Farmingdale Reacts to Earthquake

Shocks from a Virginia area earthquake reached Long Island on Tuesday afternoon.

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake originating in Virginia shook Long Island on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Facebook and Twitter were buzzing with residents in the Farmingdale area saying they felt the tremors. Some reported phone service disruptions.

According to representatives from the Town of Oyster Bay and Suffolk County Police, there have not been any serious local earthquake-related problems yet.

"We got a couple of calls," said TOBAY representative Marta Kane. "We sent our Public Safety officers to check things out. We've been given the all clear."
