Notes from the Village of Farmingdale board meeting.

Missed the recent Village of Farmingdale board meeting? Here are some of the highlights from the July meeting last week. Trustees also meet every Monday at 7 p.m. for work sessions.

Requests to Utilize Village Property

Mayor George Starkie and the Board of Trustees approved the following property requests:

  • Farmingdale Hawks Youth Football parade from Howitt Middle School to Allen Park on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m.
  • Farmingdale Youth Council music concert on the Village Green on Thursday, July 14 at 7 p.m.
  • Farmingdale Breakfast Rotary/Bollinger's car show in municipal lot #2 on Aug. 7 and Aug. 14.
  • A resident to use the Jackson Ave. parking lot for a party at their residence on Clinton St. on Saturday, July 23.

The Board deferred Priesley Chiropractic's request to use the court room for a health discussion on July 28 to the library or other local meeting places.

Fire Dispatcher Elimination

Time was allotted for public comment on the . Resident Steve Wilson asked if the village has explored pooling the service with surrounding disticts to save the position. Mayor Starkie said that South Farmingdale Fire Department was approached about this possibility and said they were not interested, but that Trustees will bring the concept up again at the next Board of Fire Commissioners meeting in September.

Moving Program Funds

Trustees approved a resolution to liquidate Length of Service Award Program funds previously with the Hometown Firefighters Insurance company to RBC Wealth Management. Major Starkie explained that they are doing this now because the penalty to do this drops from three percent to two percent this August, and that is the lowest it will ever be. The funds are being moved because the Village was not happy with the annuity earnings and have already seen significant growth with other funds recently moved to RBC Wealth Management.

Outdoor Dining Application

Trustees held voting on an application by restaurant for eight tables of two in front of the restaurant until they receive a scale drawing and other documents.

Upcoming Meetings

The Board reminded residents that a public hearing on the will take place on Monday, July 11 at the Farmingdale Library at 7 p.m. and that the next Village Board Meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 1 at 8 p.m.
