Top 5 Winter Driving Tips

Clearly Long Island has had a mild winter this year, but as we all know the winter can be the most unpredictable and frustrating time of the year.

Even though snow hasn't been as heavy as we might have expected (after that snowy fiasco in October) that doesn't mean that we shouldn't be prepared- especially when it comes to your car.

Here is a list of the top winter car care tips to keep in mind as we enter the middle of the season.

5. It's a good idea to have your car washed in the winter. Sands and salts they use to clear the road of ice can lead to rust on your car.

4. Have new wiper blades installed. You will be using them a lot and visibility is important.

3. When it is cold outside make sure to warm up your car for a few minutes before driving anywhere.

2. Make sure all fluids are topped off- especially antifreeze washer fluid.

1. Check your tires to make sure they are properly inflated and have sufficent tred. It can be extremely dangerous if you don't have traction on slick/cold roads.

Bonus: when cleaning snow off your car be sure to only use your ice scraper on your windshields and windows. You would be surprised how many people badly scratch up their car's hood and roof.

Even though this has been a mild winter for us, just remember that the weather can change at any time, so keep these tips in mind.
