5 Things Left to Do Over the Summer

Summertime on Long Island is filled with never-ending activities - from a beautiful day at the beach and backyard barbecues to live music and fairs and festivals. Before school starts up and temperatures drop, be sure to try some of our last minute summer ideas.

A Day at the Park - One great thing about living in Farmingdale is access to beautiful state parks nearby. Bethpage State Park features a world-class golf course, beautiful nature trails, playing fields and picnic facilities. On a warm day, why not light up the barbecue or take the kids for a stroll? For those who exercise, Bethpage State Park is the perfect place for your morning run or bike ride.

Music at Jones Beach - Music lovers from all over New York consider the Nikon Theater at Jones Beach to be one of the best venues for live summer music. For the remainder of the season, Nikon Theater is housing famous acts such as Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Doobie Brothers, Incubus, Ke$ha and many more. Down the boardwalk, the Jones Beach Bandshell offers free live music every night of the week. Adventureland - For longtime Farmingdale residents, the rides and games at Adventureland are nothing new, but many will say the park's excitement never gets old. The park features rollercoasters, contest games, water rides, swings, a full arcade and dining - offering a fun-filled destination for a weekend afternoon with the family, a fun night out with friends or a birthday party venue.

Enjoy a Lakeside Movie - Eisenhower Park in neighboring East Meadow offers outdoor movies all summer long by the lake. Green Hornet will be on the big screen Thursday, Aug. 18 and Iron Man 2 will play on Thursday, Aug. 25. Movies begin at dusk. Be sure to bring chairs or a blanket!

Take a Swing at Sky Drive - Everybody loves a good game of miniature golf - no matter what age.
