Benefit Planned for Injured Farmingdale Teen

Fundraiser to help with medical expenses for Salvatore Milo set for Sunday in Plainview.

A benefit is planned Sunday for Farmingdale's Salvatore Milo who was badly injured last fall when he was struck by a car while walking home from school.

Sal, 16, is steadily recovering, family members say, but needs financial help to continue with his rehabilitation.

The Red Mango in Plainview will host a community fundraiser to help Sal's family. The store will donate 20 percent of event sales to assist him with his care and medical expenses.

The event is scheduled for Sunday March 3 from 3-7 p.m. at the frozen yogurt shop, located at 357 South Oyster Bay Rd. It is in the Plainview Centre shopping plaza, just north of Woodbury Road.

The young man suffered a traumatic brain injury as well as multiple fractures and injuries from the October accident. He has had several surgeries and is currently undergoing physical, occupational and speech therapy, family members said.

Salvatore is also a loyal Red Mango fan and, according to his aunt, asked for some while in the hospital.

Red Mango officials agreed to help raise money for him and his family during this challenging time. They will donate 20 percent of all proceeds to Sal's ongoing medical expenses, organizers said.
