Good News: Boy Honored for Saving a Life

Some stories put a smile on your face. Here's our wrap-up from around Nassau County.

This past June, David Collins was swimming and having fun with his friends in a pool, when he saw a lifeless boy at the bottom of it. He then dove down 10 feet and pulled the boy from the water. 

"It's all a blur," Collins said. "I just went on instinct."

It was those instincts that allowed Collins to save the young boy's life and to receive one of the highest civilian honors.

Girl Scouts Donate Artwork to NUMC Peds Unit

Budding artists Cassandra Nikiel and Nichole Pupo, both Girl Scouts with Troop 1404 in East Meadow, donated 32 works of art to the pediatric unit at Nassau University Medical Center Thursday.

Cuneo-Seaquist is 'Person of the Year'

Port Washington native Cathleen Cuneo-Seaquist is the Long Island Crisis Center’s “Person of the Year.”

Recognized for her support of the Bellmore-based 24-7 24/7 suicide prevention and crisis intervention hotline, Cuneo-Seaquist will be presented with her award at Long Island Crisis Center’s “5th Annual Let’s Walk, Let’s Talk…Stepping Together to Prevent Suicide” event on Sunday, Sept. 29 on the newly-opened Long Beach boardwalk. She will be featured in the organization’s 2013 annual journal.
