Lifeguards' Fundraiser Makes Big Splash at Palmer's

Locals raise more than $5,000 at Farmingdale bar/restaurant for American Cancer Society event.

The fundraiser for the American Cancer Society at Palmer's American Grille in Farmingdale Saturday was a rousing success, organizers said.

Nearly 200 people attended the event organized by four Town of Oyster Bay lifeguards. The event raised more than $5,000, exceeding expectations and including music and great raffle prizes, organizers said.

Joe Mulligan, who with fellow Town of Oyster Bay lifeguards Brendan Mims, Frank LaMagna, Chris Hamilton and Tom Durnin, organized the fundraiser and will be running in the New York City St. Patrick's Day Half Marathon to raise more money.

The group settled on the American Cancer Society because of how they've been touched by the disease. See our advance story about the organizers and their cause here.

The organizers thanked the band "The Two Daves" and the local businesses and residents which contributed to the event.
