Mets to Host Rotary's 2nd Annual Appreciation Day

Fund-raising event scheduled for Sat. May 11 at Citi Field.

The Farmingdale Breakfast Rotary Club has announced its continuing partnership with the New York Mets and scheduled its 2nd Annual Rotary Appreciation Day on Saturday May 11.

The Rotary Club has secured the Big Apple section of Citi Field for the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at 1 p.m. The event is an affordable family activity for everyone.

All proceeds will be used to fund the Rotary mission, including our annual scholarships for high school seniors. Tickets will be $40 each and will be available for purchase beginning mid-February.

“This event is very important to our club because this is our major fundraiser for the year," said club president Brendan Mahoney. "Funds raised at this event allow us to continue to promote charitable community projects.”

Farmingdale Breakfast Rotary is also seeking Long Island businesses to sponsor  the event. Interested parties can contact Tony Vitale at 516-659-8793 for more information.

Farmingdale Breakfast Rotary encourages all interested parties to visit their Facebook page for information and updates. The first Rotary Appreciation Day, held on June 17, 2012 was a major success.

Farmingdale Breakfast Rotary projects include donations to Farmingdale Community Summit’s Family Fund to help families in need throughout the community, funding of six annual scholarships to deserving high school seniors, donations of food, toys and turkey dinners during the holidays as well as a proud sponsor of youth Farmingdale Baseball.

The club also participates in Rotocare, whereby volunteer medical care is provided to county residents in need and Gift of Life, which provides life-saving heart surgery to children in need throughout the world.

Farmingdale Breakfast Rotary meetings are held every Tuesday morning at 7:45 a.m. at the Farmingdale Public Library. Meetings are open to the public.
