2 Accused of $100 Million Ponzi Scheme
Two men from Old Westbury were charged Thursday as part of a nearly $100 million Ponzi scheme that involved funds to buy the Panoramic View Resort & Residences in Montauk, according to the US Attorney's office.

A 24-count indictment charging Brian R. Callahan, a 43-year-old investment fund manager, and Adam J. Manson, a 41-year-old real estate developer, was unsealed in federal court in Central Islip on Thursday morning.

The defendants — who are brothers-in-law — pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit securities and wire fraud. Arraigned on Thursday afternoon, Manson was released on a $1 million bond secured by $500,000 in equity in his father's home. Callahan was released on a $2 million bond secured by $500,000 equity in three homes owned by his sister and father.

Recall of Dietary Supplements Expands
The recall of vitamin supplements manufactured on Long Island and suspected of including anabolic steroids has expanded to more products. The Food and Drug Administration said that Purity First Products of East Northport is recalling one lot of Healthy Life Chemistry Multi-Mineral (200 capsules) and all lot numbers for Healthy Life Chemistry Vitamin C (200 capsules). Recalled earlier were two lots of Healthy Life Chemistry B-50 (100 capsules), because of adverse reactions caused by steroids.

Executive Who Fell to Death Had Long Island Ties
A media executive who plunged to her death from the 17th floor when a railing gave way had graduated from Whitman High School in Huntington in 1996. Jennifer Rosoff, who was 35, was director of sales at Triplelift, an online advertising firm. The New York Times reported that she was seated on the balcony railing of the building at 400 E. 57th St. when it gave way, hurling her to the ground. Her funeral service is set for 11 a.m. Sunday at Gutterman's in Woodbury.

Petition Started to Keep Services at Glen Cove Hospital
Glen Cove Mayor Ralph Suozzi has created an online petition to oppose changes to Glen Cove Hospital. North Shore-LIJ announced Tuesday that it aims to phase out inpatient bed services while also expanding ambulatory surgery center, medical offices, outpatient cancer services, a community health and outreach center, and physical therapy and rehabilitation.
The petition says, "Please join us as we urge North Shore - LIJ Health System to postpone and reconsider their plans to tranform Glen Cove Hospital into an Ambulatory Care Only Hospital.  The closing or downsizing of a community hospital has countless negative effects on the immediate and surrounding communities."

Spalon Shuts Down Overnight
Dozens of customers flocked to a popular Smithtown salon on Friday morning to find their appointments canceled and seek returns on unused gift cards. Many frustrated customers were gathering in the salon's parking lot, looking for returns on unused gift cards.  One woman, who did not wish to be named, said she had a $300 balance on a gift card and she was unsure if it would be honored.
