Back on the Main Street Menu: Bollinger's

Restaurant that closed in February could reopen by the end of April.

If that restaurant at 282 Main Street looks familiar, it should.

, which closed in February after several years of operation, could open by the end of April, according to Joe Tonelli, one of the previous owners, who co-owns the new venture with Mary Bulone.

Bulone will handle front-end operations, Tonelli said.

When Bollinger's closed, its owners cited financial reasons.

Tonelli said he and Bulone are taking steps to make the restaurant succeed this time around. "We've cut down the overhead," he said. "We renegotiated the lease and the landlord was kind enough to go in the direction we needed to go."

The restaurant will make some changes, turning more to burgers and appealing to families and kids while cutting back on some menu offerings and ice cream flavors. "We'll have a good product but they won't have to pay a lot for it," Tonelli said. "We use 100 percent canola oil and foods as natural as we can get it."

The old-fashioned ice cream parlor dates back to the 1900's, when it opened as Von Leesen's. Fred Bollinger took over and renamed it more than a decade ago before retiring in October 2010 and selling it to Tonelli.

Bulone and Tonelli are waiting on some corporation paperwork but the restaurant still has its equipment and up-to-date inspections.
