Bollingers Closing Friday for Lengthy Renovations

Landmark restaurant on Main Street to be closed as work goes on.

Bollingers Family Restaurant, a Farmingdale landmark, will close its doors after Friday for extensive renovations.

Mayor Ralph Ekstrand said he learned that Friday is Bollinger's last day for some time as renovations are conducted. The restaurant can't operate while construction work is going on.

It is not clear whether Bollinger's will change hands. Ekstrand said no party has come forward to ask for a "special use permit," a village requirement when a restaurant changes hands.

The new co-owners of Bollinger's could not be reached for comment this afternoon.

The old-fashioned ice cream parlor dates to the mid-1900's, when it opened as Von Leesen's. Fred Bollinger took over and renamed it more than a decade ago before retiring in October 2010. The nostalgic, 1950s decor included old style booths, a U-shaped counter and soda fountain.
