Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce Honors Businessperson of the Year

Rosemary Trudden, of McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home, was the honoree this year.

The Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce named Rosemary Trudden, of , as its Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce 2011 Outstanding Small Businessperson of the Year. 

“I am greatly honored to receive this very prestigious award, and I share it with everyone on staff at the funeral home," Trudden said. "I feel privileged to work with an outstanding staff.  We have been a part of the community for 37 years.”

Each year, the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce encourages members to select an honoree for the award who is "an active member, owns or manages a business located in the community and has made a significant contribution to the local economy, to the advancement of the Chamber and has made a meaningful and important contribution to the general welfare of the local community."

The Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors unanimously agreed that Trudden fully meets and exceeds these criteria. She has been a Farmingdale resident for more than 30 years, after she moved from Massapequa following her marriage to Joe Trudden in 1974.  She raised two sons in Farmingdale and they are now the fourth generation to run McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home.

According to the Chamber, Trudden's philosophy that building a better business goes hand in hand with building a better community, resulted in her becoming involved in many community groups. She is a past president of the Farmingdale Kiwanis Club where she helped with the displaying of the flags on Main Street, assisted with the Christmas Tree Lighting service and served refreshments to the families in attendance afterwards. She is also past-president of St. Kilian Women’s Guild and Farmingdale Women’s Club and a former board member of Hardscrabble Senior Center.

Currently Trudden is a committee member of , which attracts hundreds of visitors to the community every year, a member of Farmingdale Columbiettes and the Farmingdale Historical Society.  She is also a trustee of the Farmingdale Public Library and board member of the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce.

She was honored at a celebration at The Nutty Irishman on Oct. 6. She was also recognized at the NCCC’s 2011 Outstanding Small Businessperson of the Year Awards and Legislative Breakfast on Oct. 7.
