Major Construction Projects Will Result in Street Closings

Village ready to being work Friday; See these street and parking lot closures.

Construction projects are set to begin soon as developers invest tens of millions of dollars in Farmingdale, village officials announced this week.

While creating economic opportunities, the construction projects will require closures of some streets, sidewalk and parking lots in the vicinity of the LIRR station for safety purposes. Big changes are in store beginning Friday.

Excavation will begin Nov. 15 for the Bartone Project, a $59 Million residential/retail Development Project on South Front Street adjacent to the Farmingdale Long Island Railroad (LIRR) Station. Some street, sidewalk and parking lot closures are expected.The village advises residents and commuters to allow extra time to navigate around the projects safely during the construction phases.

The development is part of the approved 2035 Village Master Plan, meeting all traffic and parking requirements. Beginning Nov. 15, Farmingdale Village is shutting down major streets near the LIRR, due to excavation of two development sites:

  • Closing South Front Street from Elizabeth Street to Secatogue Avenue for the duration of construction (about 1 year)
  • Closing Secatogue Avenue from South of LIRR tracks to Eastern Parkway from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday (while work is underway; through the Spring, about 6 months).
  • Eastern Parkway will be open .
  • Atlantic Avenue exit from LIRR Station onto Secatogue Avenue will be closed
  • The North Parking Lot will be open but only reachable from Melville Road north on Secatogue Avenue.
  • Entrance into south parking lot from Eastern Parkway lot (Depot Avenue) and exit from Sperry Place will be open .
  • Atlantic Avenue exit from LIRR onto Oakview Avenue will remain open

Also South Front Street will be closed to walkers, possible alternate route is being sought. village residents will be offered free shuttle van rides via Long Island Checker Cab during the morning rush hour Monday through Friday from 6:30 - 8:30 a.m. from Cornelia Street pick-up stop, to the LIRR Station. Residents and commuters should allow extra time commuting.

In addition, some parking spaces will not be accessible and the Village is directing commuters to Lot 7 during the construction.
