Biz Beat: Sun Shines on Zwanger-Pesiri Health Fair (Photos)

Health information, healthy food treats and dancing fun were evident as vendors throng the Sunrise Highway facility on Sunday.

Zumba. Vinnie from the organic gardening classes. Martial arts enthusiasts. Football tosses and a concert band with big brass instruments playing.

They were all part of the 2012 Health and Wellness Fair put on by Zwanger-Pesiri at its headquarters building in North Lindenhurst.

The free event, first of its kind for the company, was held on Sunday, September 30, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and myriad residents from Lindenhurst and elsewhere on the Island attended.

Vendor specialties included physician specialists, acupuncture, skin and beauty care, cooking demonstrations, nutrition, weight loss information, personal training, health insurance information, a blood drive, yoga and aerobics.

Live music, food and drinks and "midway-style" games gave the day a festive air.

But central to it all was a large contingent of Zwanger-Pesiri staff, on hand to provide information, offer health tips and just make sure everyone was having a great day.

“Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology has always enjoyed the support of our Long Island community,” said Jim Spera, director of marketing for the radiology operation.

“We, as well, have supported the community through charitable events and programs such as our own Give Back Sunday. Having our own Health Fair here in Lindenhurst, we have the opportunity to meet our neighbors our patients and their families,” he continued.

Among the 50 or so vendors on hand were some that'll be familiar to residents of the area, including a large gathering of the Suffolk County First Precinct Police Auxiliary Explorers Post 555.

Organic master gardener Vince Cirasole, who teaches Babylon Town’s organic gardening classes seasonally, was showing off his trademark garlic and other vegetables.

Zumba dancers were also getting a lot of attention, as was a display from the LI CKO kickboxing operation.

Raffles and drawings and games for the kids, fruitables, Take Shape for Life, bakers with fresh-baked products, including peanut butter and jell blondies, and ginger ale crumbcakes punctuated the Fair.

The Selden Cadets drum and bugle corps, and an impressive brass band in the Town's mobile bandstand entertained the crowd.

It all added up to a fine afternoon of fun while focusing on health goals.

“The experience was quite a bit of fun,” said Spera. "I'm hopeful everyone took home a bit of knowledge about their health, and had a good time doing it."

With offices across Nassau and Suffolk Counties, Zwanger-Pesiri offers a comprehensive range of highly sophisticated imaging tests in an environment that focuses on patient comfort and care.

Founded more than 60 years ago, the company maintains headquarters at 150 Sunrise Highway in North Lindenhurst, next to Babylon Town Hall.
