Are We Trying to Forget That Day?

11 years ago, jets exploded into the World Trade Center; some people will never forget what happened.

If we were old enough to remember Sept. 11, 2001, it would be hard to forget that surreal spectacle when perfect blue skies billowed smoke and ash as giant buildings burned and collapsed. Almost 3,000 dead; a nation shocked to its core. A nightmare newsreel playing over and over.

Numerous commemorations are planned across Long Island Tuesday but many seem muted by comparison to previous years, perhaps restrained by last year's passing of the 10th anniversary.

There's a quiet prayer and meditation service planned at a Farmingdale Church, and the Town of Babylon Tuesday night.

But do you think some people are trying to put 9/11 behind them? Are you?

Others will never forget that day of courage and endurance in the face of unprecedented horrors.

How do you think of that day 11 years ago? Will you attend a service or join in a volunteer effort?
