County Agency to Consider Tax Breaks for Bartone Project

Nassau County Industrial Development Agency to Meet Thursday on Farmingdale project.

The Nassau County Industrial Development Agency is set to hold hearings Thursday on the request by the developer of the Bartone Plaza project to get tax breaks.

BWC Realty Partners , LLC., the company managed by Anthony Bartone has filed an application for a Payment in Lieu of Taxes or PILOT agreement with the agency related to the project, according to the agency's website.

A PILOT is an agreement that usually allows a developer or other entity to pay the government less than they would normally owe in property taxes.  The IDA uses such agreements to promote business development in Nassau County.

The  application by BWC is seeking an abatement on property taxes so they can move ahead with the project according to the agency, which was trying to negotiate an agreement that would be close to what the taxes would be if the transfer of property ownership had not taken place. The taxes would then increase  as improvements are made.

The application also seeks a reduction on mortgage recording taxes and some sales taxes.
