Farmingdale Trivia Answer: Hempstead and Merritts

Answer to Thursday's trivia question.

Last week's trivia question asked where this photo taken in 1901 is located today.

The home, which was the First Powell House, was located on Conklin Street just west of Merritts Road, now the area of an auto collision store, according to the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society.

The historical society reports that Thomas Powell, the first European settler in what is now the Farmingdale-Bethpage area, arrived in 1687. Within the first few years, he and his family constructed a home on what is now Hempstead Turnpike. The structure endured until 1931, known in later years as the Lawrence homestead.
