A Farmingdale boy scout, along with scouts from Merrick and East Meadow, are competing as a team in the First Lego League’s “Food Factor” competition.
The First Lego League is a competition designed to get children excited about science and technology through research, problem solving and engineering.
The scouts, Jack Miller of Farmingdale, Brian Harding and Kyle Kravit of Merrick, and Tim O’Leary of East Meadow, must pick a type of food and
identify problems it faces in staying fresh from the ground through its
journey to the table.
The four scouts focused on problems food faces staying fresh during transportation and recently discussed their project with New York State Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., R-Merrick,
Fuschillo, who is Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, talked with the scouts about the steps New York State takes to ensure that food is handled and delivered safely, including a law he authored to improve food transportation safety standards.
