The second phase of trackwork on the Long Island Rail Road’s Ronkonkoma branch is underway.
Midday train service between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma has been restored, but westbound departure times have changed because of the additional trackwork.
The second phase of the project includes the replacement of wooden ties from Ronkonkoma to Farmingdale weekdays throughout the summer. According to the LIRR, when completed, the work is expected to ensure greater service reliability and a smoother, more comfortable ride for its customers.
During phase three of the project, set to run from July 23 to August 10, buses will replace midday weekday train service between Hicksville and Ronkonkoma. All midday weekday trains on the branch will terminate and originate at Farmingdale.
