This string of storefronts on Main Street in Farmingdale has been empty for some time and we're wondering "why?"
The closed businesses stretch from No. 245 to the entrance to the municipal parking lot on the east side of Main Street. There’s plenty of parking behind the stores.
Other stores are opening downtown. Think of the success of “A Taste of Long Island,” or the new Bottega restaurant planned for the same block.
But other stores are closing their doors. A recent example was that great record shop with every imaginable oldie but goodie.
Patch has heard lots of reasons for the problems downtown: Too many bars, overzealous parking ticket policies, no help from any government anywhere to assist with start-up funding.
