VIDEO: Village Board Rezones Main Street

The new zoning is part of a revitalization effort in the Village of Farmingdale.

The Village of Farmingdale approved a law Monday night that will allow residential units to be built over stores on Main Street, a decision the board believes is key to local revitalization.

Local Law 5 legalizes the construction of mixed used buildings in , which were legal more than 50 years ago. Any new construction can now reach as high as 45 feet, about three and a half units.

Before the Board of Trustees voted to approve the amended law, there were public hearings at both the October and November meetings where some about illegal apartments, parking and other issues.

Mayor Starkie and the addressed the concerns with parking requirements and other compromises.
