Key to Awesomeness: The Rockets are a Farmingdale girl’s soccer team composed of avid soccer players that have been together since third grade. Currently, the players are in eighth and ninth grade.

Since 2006, the Rockets have played and hosted the “Turkey Bowl,” a charity soccer tournament held every Thanksgiving weekend. Brian Mulcahy, a teacher in the Massapequa School District and longtime volunteer for Farmingdale Girls Soccer, runs the annual Turkey Bowl. Money raised from the event is used to purchase Christmas gifts and winter clothing for homeless individuals in Nassau County. This year, the Turkey Bowl raised over $10,000, with a portion donated to needy families specifically in Farmingdale. The team shopped for specific families at Walmart and then wrapped the gifts to ensure each family had an enjoyable holiday. The remaining funds bought numerous coats for disadvantaged individuals across Long Island that were distributed by Mulcahy and the Rockets to a homeless shelter.
