Out with the Old, in with the New?

New does not always mean better when it comes to commuting.

On the LIRR Ronkonkoma branch, the new trains are what usually run on that line. But every now and then, an old train will show up. Here's a list of things I like and dislike about both trains:

Old Trains

  • They seem to have more room, standing and sitting. - Pro
  • The bathrooms need to be redone, ripped out and replaced or something. The bathroom cars can tend to smell foul. - Con
  • The seats are a little wider, but the seat backs are lower. - Pro and Con
  • The doors are easier to open when moving between cars. - Pro
  • The aisles are wider and easier to maneuver through without bumping into someone. - Pro

  • There is less room standing and sitting. - Con
  • The bathroom cars do not smell foul like on the old trains and the bathrooms are bigger. - Pro
  • Seats are smaller but seat backs are higher making it more comfortable for taller people. - Pro and Con
  • The aisles seem to be smaller and hard to maneuver through without bumping into someone. - Con
  • Electrical outlets work and you can charge your phone, laptop or other electronics. - Pro
  • The doors are much heavier and harder to open when moving from one car to another. - Con

Above are some of my pros and cons about the old and new trains. What are your opinions? Which do you prefer?
