Happy Thanksgiving, Farmingdale: Here's What's Open, Closed

Thursday is a national holiday, but many local retailers are open for at least part of the day.

Happy Thanksgiving, Farmingdale.

Today is a national holiday, which means all federal, state and local government offices are closed. Banks and the financial markets are closed. There is no postal delivery. In the Town of Oyster Bay, garbage pickup is delayed one day.

If you're heading to the big parade in Manhattan, the Long Island Rail Road is operating on a holiday schedule, but has added additional trains system-wide. Off peak fares apply Thursday as well as Friday, when the LIRR will operate on a near normal weekday schedule. Extra cars are being added to trains.

Most supermarkets in Farmingdale are open Thursday morning but will close by mid-afternoon. The same is true of most area drug stores. Many are open until about 5 p.m., although their pharmacies may close earlier.
