Volunteers to Thank for Farmingdale's Holiday Decorations

Christmas Tree lighting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday is culmination of weeks of planning and hard work.

Tuesday evening's Christmas tree lighting at Farmingdale's Village Green is the culmination of the work of 30 volunteers dedicated to making downtown sparkle this year.

The tree lighting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Village Green. Refreshments will be served following the illumination at Village Hall. The event is sponsored by the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society.

Deputy Mayor Patricia Christiansen said more than 30 volunteers from the Beautification Committee and Farmingdale Women's Club gathered at Village Hall Nov. 21 to check the lights and fluff the bows on more than 80 wreaths.

Then, on Saturday, Nov. 23, the Beautification Committee were joined by many Girl Scouts and their leaders; junior firefighters and Marine Corps recruits from the Hicksville Recruiting Statiion under the direction of Sgt. Thomas Heinsohn. The group hung wreaths along Main Street and in Northside Park; hung garland on the Village Green Gazebo and fencing along the railroad; roping and bows on the Village Green perimeter fence and hung lights on three blue spruce trees at Northside Park.

The decorations in the Village Green were completed in time to welcome the participants from the Chamber of Commerce Holiday parade and, of course, Santa Claus.

On Monday, Beautification Committee volunteers and DPW personnel will complete the village's decorating efforts in the Main Street/Melville Road triangle and holiday trees under the Village Green Gazebo.

"This work could not be completed without the time and effort of all our volunteers," Christiansen said.
