1. Even on cold mornings, try to avoid warming your car up for very long. About 45 seconds to a minute is more than enough time.

2. Traveling the speed limit helps save gas. Studies show that traveling the 55 mph speed limit will save you about 22 percent better mileage compared to traveling 65-70 mph.

3. Air drag can reduce your mileage by about 10 percent. Air drag is caused by driving with open windows or the top down on your convertible.

4. Though not a serious issue in cold weather, using the air conditioner in your automobile can reduce fuel economy by up to 20 percent.

5. Make sure each of your tires is inflated to maximum limit. Under inflated tires can decrease your fuel economy by over 20 percent.

Bonus:
Try avoiding unpaved or rough roads when possible. Driving on dirt roads or gravel can seriously reduce gas mileage up to 30 percent.

Nobody likes seeing gas prices rise and in this economy people are neglecting their cars to try and save as much money as possible. By following these tips you should be able to save a little bit extra. Not to mention who wouldn’t mind decreasing the number of trips to the gas station.
