At the time I was working fulltime so this second book has taken about one year to write 30 stories.

How did you come up with the idea for this book?

Bumpy roads is a good way to describe Christchurch roads as well as the bumpy roads in the lives of those who have lost their homes, jobs, businesses, been displaced or have lost loved ones as a result of the earthquakes. In writing this book, I have extended this theme to include various stories based in other countries in which I have travelled. Stories include the countries of New Zealand, Australia, China, Japan, Zimbabwe, London, France and Italy.  Many of the stories are thought provoking or humorous and have surprise twists.

Who reads the drafts of your short stories?

In my second book I have used five editors because we all miss mistakes. We see with our brains and not our eyes, and our brain fills in the gap. Two of these people are exceptionally good at editing. A quality product is paramount.

What else are you working on?

Currently I am waiting to hear back from a traditional publisher in respect to future work. Meanwhile, I am working on a third book of short stories, which will otherwise go through Trafford Publishing.

What is your favorite snack while writing?

Anything I can find in the pantry- I am a grazer. My wife gets angry when I get into a bag of potato chips as these have a lot of fat content.

Share a pet peeve of yours (related to writing or otherwise).

I get annoyed when a person is shown as author and the work was done by a ghost writer. In my opinion it should be shown as XYZ’s story written by Joe Blog (ghost writer).
