Accused Farmingdale Burglar Caught

New Jersey woman allegedly responsible for four separate thefts, cops said.

A New Jersey woman was arrested Wednesday after she was allegedly responsible for a string of thefts during the past week, including one in Farmingdale.

According to police, on Oct. 5 at 6:35 p.m., Cathleen Toomey, 29, of Gloucester City, forced open the rear door to a Nelson Street home in Farmingdale. She and a suspect who is still at large allegedly stole a 52-inch TV, iPod, laptop, camera and assorted jewelry.

As the homeowner returned to her property, she saw the suspects leaving the scene and called police. 

On Oct. 6, at 2:20 p.m., Toomey and her then boyfriend Nicholas Montorano allegedly broke into a car parked at L.A. Fitness in New Hyde Park and stole a pocketbook and tote bag.

On Oct. 8, around 6:30 p.m., Toomey and another suspect allegedly broke into a car parked at Planet Fitness in Levittown and stole a pocketbook. 

Lastly, on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m., Toomey and another suspect allegedly broke into a car parked at New York Sports Club in East Meadow and stole another pocketbook.

On Oct. 9, Toomey and Montorano were arrested by U.S. Marshalls after a New Jersey police investigation. Montorano being held for processing and is facing charges from New Jersey.

Toomey is charged with second-degree burglary, three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and third-degree criminal mischief. Her arraignment is scheduled for Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
