Cops: Man Stole $40G from Elderly Bethpage Man

The suspect led a 92-year-old man to believe he was purchasing luxury vehicles being imported into the country, police said.

A Queens man was arrested Wednesday in Bethpage for stealing $40,000 from a 92-year-old man, authorities said. 

Nassau County Police say Akeem R. Baker, 20, of 116-25 Merrick Boulevard in Jamaica, led the male victim to believe he was purchasing high-end vehicles that were being imported into the country. An investigation led to the arrest of Baker in front of the victim’s residence. Some of the proceeds were recovered.

Baker is charged with third-degree grand larceny, second-degree attempted grand and first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent person.

He was scheduled for arraignment on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
